Live Scan

A1 Fingerprinting Services offers Fingerprinting Services using cutting-edge Live Scan fingerprinting technology for fastest and convenient way of criminal record checks or verification of criminal records in Canada. Electronic/digital fingerprints are captured using Live Scan scanning device and transmitted electronically to the Canadian Criminal Real Time Identification Services of RCMP for processing.

Canadian Criminal Real Time Information System (CCRTIS). CCRTIS compares the fingerprint package against the RCMP's criminal record database. If no record is present, the RCMP will issue a certificate indicating a clear Digital fingerprinting is the electronic capture of a person's fingerprints via an optical scanner at a capture station. The scanned fingerprints, along with the application details are then formatted into a standardized electronic package that is attached and emailed, via a secure link, direct to the RCMP's Canadian Criminal record. If the applicant does have a criminal record this will be indicated in the results.

A list of the most common applications requiring digital fingerprinting:

  • Civil applications: Employment with the Federal, Provincial, or Municipalities, and employment for private companies.
  • Police certificates based on digital fingerprints are often required by certain licensing bodies like the Law Society of Upper Canada, ICCRC, the Ontario Real Estate Association, etc…
  • Vulnerable Sector Checks: volunteers and staff with vulnerable members of society such as children, the elderly or persons with disabilities – teachers, social workers, day-care workers, nurses and children’s sports coaches.
  • Applications for Canadian Citizenship and immigration to Canada including application under the Express Entry Stream.
  • Applications for criminal record to apply for Pardon record suspension and US Entry Waivers.
  • Foreign travel: Border Crossing, Work Permit, Study Permit and Extended Stay Visitors Visas.

Ink/Roll on Fingerprints

Ink and Roll is the traditional way of capturing fingerprints for the purpose of applying for a criminal record search or a police certificate. In Canada Ink and Roll has been replaced by digital or electronic fingerprinting. All fingerprints submissions to the RCMP must be done electronically expect when dealing with certain Federal Government Offices that still requires Ink fingerprints on RCMP C216C Form.
-However, Ink fingerprints are still used for all police certificate requests destined to foreign countries.
-FBI Identity History Summary applications are the number one reason for ink fingerprints. FBI FD-258 fingerprint cards are used for this purpose.
-FBI police certificates are usually required for immigration to Canada under the Express Entry Stream and Spousal sponsorships.
-It is often required for licensing with different levels of authorities in the USA.

Also, certain countries require ink fingerprints taken in Canada to issue police certificates to the applicants. The main countries who have an ink fingerprints requirement are:

  • Hong Kong for the Certificate of Non-Criminal Convictions (CNCC).
  • The Philippines for their NBI clearance.
  • Nigeria for their Police Character Certificate.
  • Bahrain for their Good Conduct Certificate.
  • The United Arab Emirates (UAE) from their Criminal Clearance Certificate or Certificate of Good Conduct.
  • Dominica for their Criminal Record Information.
  • Egypt for their Criminal Record Certificate.
  • Ethiopia for their Certificate of Good Conduct.
  • Qatar for their Police Clearance Certificate.
  • Singapore for their Certificate of Clearance (COC).
  • Mexico for their Constancia De Antecedentes Registrales.St. Vincent, Saint Lucia, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Haiti, British Virgin Islands and Grenada for their Police Certificate.

RTID will also benefit Canadian citizens requiring a Criminal Record check to support their application for a security clearance in order to obtain employment or travel internationally

What identification do I need to bring with me to my appointment?

You must provide two pieces of valid government issued identification, at least one of which must be photo ID.

The following types of identification are acceptable:

·         Passport

·         Citizenship Card or Document

·         Immigration Document (Student Visa, Work Visa, Landing Papers)

·         Birth Certificate

·         Driver's License

·         Permanent Resident Card or Record of Landing for Citizenship applicants

·         Government ID (if you are employed by a federal or Provincial branch of the Government)

·         Health card with photo (please note not all provinces accept health cards as valid government issued ID. Please refer to provincial regulations or call the office nearest you.

 

Should I bring anything else with me to my appointment?

Please note that it is recommended that applicants have with them any documentation or file number provided by the requesting agency (if applicable). All digital fingerprinting requests for Canadian Citizenship must include a letter from Citizenship and Immigration Canada. This letter must include the address for third party results submissions and should have a CIC file number. Please ensure this letter is available during your fingerprinting session.
